The room comes first.
We design around what is already there — doorways, ceiling heights, light direction, the rug you cannot bear to replace. Furniture that fights the room never becomes a favourite.
Zestplex began in 2009 as a small repair and reupholstery operation in a back-lane workshop in Sungai Buloh. Within a year, almost every client was asking the same thing: could we just build a new one, but right this time? The first commissioned pieces were a pair of dining benches for a family in Bangsar; we still service them, sixteen years on.
By 2014 we had moved to the present Damansara workshop and stopped taking on repairs. Today we are seven people — three joiners, two upholsterers, one finisher, and one project lead — and we cap at six concurrent builds because that is what we can hold to standard without losing the personal thread.

Photos and swatches lie about texture and weight. Every brief begins with a physical sample pack that you keep for a week. Decide with your hands.
Mortise and tenon, dowelled, dovetailed. No staples in load-bearing joints, no MDF carcasses hidden inside upholstery. If a joint cannot be seen, that is the joint that has to be strongest.
The person who jointed your frame is the person who carries it through your door and adjusts the foot levellers. They have skin in the game.
Forty percent to start the build, balance on delivery. No incremental fabric charges, no “last-minute” freight invoices. If scope changes, we re-quote first.
Twelve-year frame guarantee, lifetime help. Send a photo of a loose joint and we send a maker. We have repaired pieces from 2010 and we will repair the ones we make this week.
Hospitality and residential clients alike are introduced to the maker who will lead their build during the first call. No bouncing between account managers.
Project lead & founder. Sixteen years in custom furniture, including six at a Penang hospitality outfit. Leads briefs and site measurement. Most first emails reach him directly.
Head of upholstery. Trained in the UK and seven years here. Personally hand-ties springs on every sofa we ship, even the four-seaters.
Lead joiner. Solid timber and veneer specialist. Cuts every mortise in the workshop by hand or with a hand-held router — never the CNC, no matter the volume.
Finishing. Stain matching, oil and lacquer work. She is the reason no two walnut sets ever leave us looking quite the same shade.
Workshop foreman. Holds the schedule, tracks materials, keeps the floor running. Most build update emails come from him.
Apprentices. Both in their second year. Sara is leading her first solo dining set this quarter; Devan upholstered the dust covers on six lobby pieces last month.
The workshop is open by appointment Monday to Saturday, ten to five. Come for the brief, come to sit on the foam options, come just to see how dust gets everywhere. Tea is on. There is paid parking on site.

“They measured the lift, the lift lobby and the corridor before quoting. When the sofa came up, it fit with millimetres to spare. That is what bespoke is meant to mean.” — Joanna L., private client, Mont Kiara
